Why do companies need subscription automation products like Zuora, Chargebee ?
A script can automatically continue charging customers based on the card details they have provided and legal terms the customers have accepted for. Then, why need a product? What else Zuora do? I'm honestly trying to understand. I haven't used these products but just looked at their websites.

A subscription system is much more than charging. It's about knowing when to charge to not be rejected by payment service providers, it's to provide invoices that provide enough information for legal purposes(many many rules around these, especially in EU). It's also about knowing which payment service provider provide services in the world. Chargebee or Zuora hides that complexity from you so that you can focus on charging and they can do the orchestration on their end. All the above is just scratching the surface. There are many many many things subscription services do. Store CC card numbers so that you don't have to. If you do it, you have to comply with regulations to ensure the data cannot be hacked.
