Why do many Government of India websites look like they were made with yahoo geocities by a 12 year old?
Some examples below, bad formatting, stretched images, blurry text/logos/pics - they look worse on desktop. When I first go on these I think I am being scammed because they are so bad. This country has millions of engineers and designers, why don't we hire a couple to make these websites better? Not a good look for a budding super power! ๐ฉ
90% of the time it's down or the server error
WDYM hire? Nobody wants to deal with govt bureaucracy even in tech. I heard you have to stick to what already exists and follow your superior's orders. They do pay a decent amount (1L) but the work is trash with no freedom.
Because these sites needs to be reachable and usable for everyone. Imagine the worst connection money can buy, 15 years old computer or 20$ phone connected to reader for visually impaired and the site needs to work.
All GOI websites are built by some Govt sponsored agencies like CDAC. The people who work there are mediocre. They donโt care. theyโll have a job no matter what. Only departments that suck peopleโs money like tax and epfo care to have quality

Yes even indian banking website are terrible, i have account in ICICI, HDFC and Citi India. But i find even Canadian banks website to be bad, and are down time to time. US spoils us so much. ๐ That we start disliking everything. US bank websites and apps are so smooth

India is selfless and believes in distributing its talent across the world. TBH, Indians are usually bad in design/creative work but great in manual/repetitive work.
