There are so many people on youtube who offers interview coaching services, I think lots of them don't really work for big company, but doing their own interview coaching business. Those people are already so good at interview questions, why don't they just interview and get top TC? Does interview coaching business really make much more money? #softwareengineer
Coaching for interviews doesn’t necessarily mean you have the presence of mind to crack real interviews. Most of the YouTubers script their content anyway. Another reason: YouTube is a hell lot of money.
Is it though? I see no evidence of this?
YouTube is create once and continuous flow of money as long as the video is up. The junk kid videos where they drive over colorful balloons all day have over 50 mil views and the creators are making over 10 mil per year. Educational videos get paid higher than entertainment ones. And once you have over 50 videos, you simply mix and match content from those to create another 50 and still earn money.
They can leetcode well, but can they do system design?
Many of those YouTube folks I’ve noticed are ex-FAANG. Those are the ones I would trust. They’re likely doing it now while they’re not an employee since they have more freedom over what they publish online. FAANG companies have lots of rules around what their employees can publish online.
Dude the margins on any kind of test prep business is bonkers. Think of SAT prep, GRE prep, list goes on. AlgoExpert produces like $30k/month I think
How is that bonkers? 30k/month meaning 360k/year, which you can easily get in big tech? I’m sure they are pulling in much more than that.
Coaching for interviews one on one also can make a lot of money if you do it well. Not to mention you get to dictate your hours and who you get to work with.
