From what I hear they pay bottom of the barrel comp, and treat employees like crap. Do people just work there because they can't work anywhere else? The interview process is pretty intense so I would imagine epic engineers can get better jobs?
Because itâs epic!
Are you confusing epic games and epic healthcare? Epic games pays great and epic healthcare is shit from what I heard.
Worked there in the past, made between 100-140k during my time there as a new grad with $500/month rent. So great pay for the cost of living. Most engineers have to deal with a horrible stack, and a horrific backend language (Cache/M). I was mobile, so I really liked it.
Healthcare or games?
Healthcare
I'm referring to epic Healthcare company in Madison
Ah, I thought this was about Epic games. Healthcare? Booooring
Not everyone can work at Google!
Epic interview process is pretty rigorous. Not Google, but I'd say more rigorous than a lot of better companies
Whatâs the tech stack?
C++/.NET web layer, Cache/Mumps backend (which might as well be Brainfuck). Some legacy VB code
Bottom of the barrel comp? Uhh, compared to 2s, Citadel, HRT sure, but better than most companies in NYC/LA even before adjusting for COL. The interview process is easier than other top jobs. This discussion has been rehashed 10,000 times. Go back to complaining about your refreshers.
I can give you few reasons: 1. WLB: Monday to Friday, 8-5 job. Unless there are deadlines (which happens once in 3-4 months), you won't need to work weekends or after hours. Even that happens at the max 1-2 weekends in a quarter. 2. Stability: Not everyone gets the previlige of working at Google which has a cash đ (search engine) to mint money. Healthcare is generally not impacted with recession. To prove with example, Epic just had a hiring freeze and had zero layoffs during the entire 2008 recession. 3. Work culture: I like the laid-back work culture at Epic. I have an individual office which I keep closed. I don't need to work with someone constantly staring at me or my screen. If I need to take a break, I can play music (on a đ) to relax for sometime and catch up with my work later. 4. Very good pay for COL: I get paid around 210k. If I want to buy a brand new awesome looking 3000 Sq ft house, I can get it for <500-550k. You tell me how much it would cost to buy similar house in CA or NY etc. So basically, live like a king. 5. Private company: No need to explain our actions to shareholders, and no need to panic every quarter about "What if the earnings are low. Will they do any layoffs because of low sales?" 6. Entire company is one entity: we don't operate like Amazon or Microsoft like individual divisions wherein if something is not going well, there will be layoffs in that division. When we have one product with fewer development requirements, we automatically shuffle the resources to other teams. So if you are good at what you do, you don't need to worry about your job stability based on your application's performance. And it is so much fun to work at this campus. One of the best ones (like your Google campuses only but way way bigger). For example, this is the 11,500 seating conference room in which entire Epic meets for a staff meeting every month..
i just applied for a job at epic! do you have any tips for the hiring process? would it be alright if i messaged you?

From what I've heard, they pay decently for the area and have a good campus. The only bad thing I've heard about them is the awful techstack (which is pretty important imo).
