Why cant they just respond with "we are working on it" or "sorry, we have moved on with other candidate" or "sorry, your skills don't match our requirement". Whats the point of just ignoring repeated ask for status update? We are all grown ups here. Not like they have to give out life sentences.
Recruiters are the least ethical people in Silicon Valley. Change my mind
Simple. You donโt bring them a commission payout.
Any legit recruiter reading this? Do you do this? If yes, why?
If not, WHY? we want both cases.
1. Too busy with higher priority tasks 2. Too many emails, get lost in the shuffle, 3. Arenโt certain that they want to reject you
Overworked so low priority candidates fall through the cracks.
Imagine 10,000 people comment on your post on social media. Would you reply to each of them? Sure, at first you would but then you just get tired because you have other things to do and replying does not pay your bills. Not condoning this behavior, just accepting it as human nature. Same reason why celebrities donโt reply to every fan or why a hot girl does not reply to all the dudes in her inbox
I have zero respect for recruiters. They actually make recruiting harder. An important part of their job is to properly organize emails and they get paid for it. If they can't do that they are failing at their job.
Im with recruiters in this debate. Obviously some are jackasses but majority are not. Imagine being a recruiter. You are hiring for say 4 roles and each role has 25 applicants. You are looking at 100 candidates trying to reach you and follow up. On top of this you have meetings to attend to, coworkers to socialize with, etc etc. For the techies out there... imagine being mailbox support and you receive hundreds of support requests in a day. It takes weeks and months to get organized.
Difference between a support mailbox and recruiter mailbox is that an engineer has to debug something and respond where debugging can take significant time and effort. Whereas a recruiter just has to either respond to a query from the top of their mind or just forward information they get from the teams. Their responses most of the time are standard and they have access to lot of HR tools to make this job easier.
Recruiters at Amazon are the most aggressive and unorganized. Recruiters at Google are the slowest. Taking forever to reply (if at all).
