I’ve a iPhone SE 1st gen which has been working quite well since 2017. Perfect form factor. Fits easily in my pocket. Can operate it with one hand. Super lightweight. I don’t use instagram or any other Meta apps. Just gmail, Blind, YouTube and company outlook/messenger for urgencies. Camera is decent. I’m not aspiring to be an ace photographer. Photos get uploaded to google photos. Hence 32 GB storage is not a big issue. Battery is down to 75% capacity. I plan to get the battery replaced. So why do ppl need so expensive phones? What am I missing?
An even better question is why we need $1000+ phones
Sure
An even better question, why do we need a 300$+ phone ? I have a 250$ pixel
Quality I guess.
MSFT, same for 500$+ then
Some of us appreciate fast and big phones that take awesome photos. Same logic as some people appreciate a nice and luxurious ride, while others are perfect content with a 1996 beater.
Fast? Are you running a particle collider? Use a DSLR if you want really good photos.
Can't fit a DSLR in my pocket
Cuz I can’t find $50 phones anymore
BSNL
Sure you can, the Nokia C100 is one. But somehow it manages to run Android like trash. A Lumia 520 back in the day was $50 and was extremely usable. Everything was snappy.
1. Software stability. I’ve noticed that weaker harder starts to get glitchy af quicker after years of software updates. Some of this I believe is just Apple’s shady shenanigans though lol. 2. The improved camera. I am not serious enough about photography to carry around a bulky camera. But I can definitely still appreciate a clearer photo. 3. I like using big screens. 4. Gimmicks like Animoji 🤣
#1 is such a big issue on Android, I used $250-350 phones for 6-7 years and they would usually stop working in a year or so, either due to hardware failure or the software getting slow after updates. The $500 phone I got after them made it to the 2 year mark & still works, and my current $1000 phone is like night and day compared to even that. Smooth and fast (only upgraded bc I graduated school and wanted a flagship phone, used part of my sign on bonus on it and got it on sale for $600)
Lol yep! I’ve had the same experience with Android, except I gave up and switched to iPhone after the android started glitching after 1 year.
I have a 12 pro max. It will be my last expensive phone. Gonna use it for 3-4 more years and then switch to the SE of the time or a refurbished one under 500
My grandma told me a similar thing. Why do you need smartphones? She is not on meta or doesn't use emails. She's perfectly happy with her "non smart" razr from back in the day - perfect form factor, folds and fits in her tiny purse, she can call her friends etc etc.. she's grandfathered into a plan that doesn't require her buying a dates plan to date! It's all about your usage. If the iPhone se works for you, great - save the money and stick with it. For the rest of the folks who don't mind spending in exchange for better cameras and screen real estate and face unlock and myraid of features; power to them.
I bought an iPhone 7 plus for $800. Traded it in for iPhone X. Paid $150 extra but my network gave that back as installments in 12months. Since then I always gen new one on day 1 Last year I traded in 13 pro max and got 14 pro max. Apple gave back $720. My network gave back $400. After paying $800 for iPhone 7 plus, never paid more than $100 for new phone. Yes these offers exist on day one and when you pre-order. Why not get new phone every year if I’m getting it literally for free ? Yes performance matters for people who can actually observe the difference. Few days when I use my last year’s phone and latest one, I hate how slow last year’s phone is.
What do you mean by my network gave back to me? What really went down there?
Mobile networks have offers when you pre-order.
If you’re comparing a 2017 SE to a 2023 Pro Max, you’re delusional. Enjoy an extra 1000$ in your bank, while the rest of us enjoy the marvel of state of the art tech.
