In the contract it reads that any employee can be dismissed without any reason from the employer. Is this beneficial to the startups in SV?
This isn’t only found in California. It is common in all at-will employment states.
That’s how it works in US. Same with employee can leave anytime without notice. Just imagine you sign a contract and have to stay at a company for full 4 years, is that good?
That's not really a thing. Most countries instead require that you give some notice (2 weeks, 1 month, that sort of thing) and that your employer do the same. They also require that there is evidence of trying to help the employee improve, and that the employee is given the opportunity to do better before being fired.
What about the 2 weeks notice? Is that a thing? Or no need for that?
Because freedom
THIS!!!!
How would it not be beneficial to startups? I imagine they would be worse off if they had a hard time firing underperformers.
Wow
Because employers can fire at will.
Wanna add on to this question - how does this work for protected classes?
