I’ve been a microsoft fan for a very long time, my first pc was running windows 95 and I’m still choosing windows over mac any day. I hold ms stock. But recently I started noticing a decline in quality. Weird bugs with store, OS and other products. Now with Azure and VS. Some bugs that were reported in v16.5 and supposedly fixed lingered into current version and still is an issue. I have support request in Azure that even support engineer can’t explain. I wanted to do trial of github enterprise today and instead of 14 day trial got charged the full amount for the year smh. Does anyone even do any testing at ms anymore or shit just released in a wild and rely on developers to do the testing ? Very disappointed.
Simple reason : Microsoft isn't open source or Microsoft doesn't have a scalable and efficient codebase
Actually MSFT is now taking lot of open source projects and putting their stack on top of it and making it MSFT proprietary tech. Since they don’t communicate with open source community that much the end product coming out is buggy. I think the codebase is scalable, that is not the issue here ! The hardware and tech is there the approach to it is super shitty
Prod is test 🤣
Please DONT judge me for working at Apple based on my comment. I had been using WINDOWS all my life. When i joined Apple, my biggest fear was that i would no longer be able to work on windows any more and i had no clue about Mac. Told this to my manager and he smiled 😊 Its been 2 years now and i now personally classify Windows as shit ! Trust me. For a developers perspective, mac is God and there had not been a single instance of nuances that would happen with windows. My perspective got changes in first few months itsef.
I don’t see Microsoft hiring the best engineers. They just refuse to match the pay.
Declaimer: I still hate to the core anything that's Apple, and I love Windows with all my heart. (Saying this even after working on a top end Mac for an year) I agree that the product quality is degrading and windows 11 is just a share market stunt. But I still feel independent and free with windows, I don't want to live by someone's design guidelines (try changing your iPhone themes and talk to me). Even though Microsoft is concentrating on sales, it feels better than the Apple sales hypnosis (my stupid friend comes to me and tells about features in iPhone that came years ago in other OS) I agree with all that you said though and I wish Satya does something and heals the company even more....
Im with you on that, I do enjoy the freedom of being able to mess with the settings all I want, install apps, customize, nothing is tucked and hidden away from me etc it’s just the price it comes at lately. Im not sure if the trade off is worth it anymore. I might just get mac for work and keep windows for personal use.
Because Microsoft has gone from an engineering company to a sales company. It is sad but it is the internal truth !
Every big tech company goes through this unfortunately.
Do you think it’s still worth joining as an early career professional?
