I don’t understand why competitors haven’t been able to recreate / copy the TikTok algorithm? Meta pays its engineers and product folks so much money yet they’re not able to copy / recreate an algorithm most likely written by people making much less money than them. Instagram Reels is ass and no where near in terms of quality as TikTok.
Actually the selling of TikTok may not come with the ByteDance algorithm.
Then if the bill passes regardless of sale or no sale TikTok will die off in the US and an opportunity would open up for someone in their garage to create a competitor.
Even if it did, it would possibly be forked and could fall behind the real algorithm.
Yup - It’s crazy; the founder literally locked himself up in a small apartment for months and taught himself recommendation algorithms, then built it ground up. Just shows that without a strong product vision, engineers and scientists can’t compete. Tech is there to support product not otherway around
Wow you’re referring to Zhang Yiming? Sounds like if TikTok is banned/sold and the algorithm isn’t shared that’s an opportunity for a startup to launch a competitor.
Yeah definitely- and maybe it would be even better since there wouldn’t be any tech debt (transformers weren’t a thing in 2012)
