Why doesn't Google have its own first party Android TV device?

Why leave it to Nvidia and Xiaomi to build Android TV device? It's a huge opportunity to provide full turnkey home automation with its own Android dongle w/ Chromecast built in, home hub, and YouTube TV.

They have tried in the past. It didn’t sell. Google is good at making tech (usually) but fail at figuring out how to actually sell devices.

Nexus player. I have one actually (that I eventually replaced with a Roku). As poster above me said - it flopped.

Yes, something like Nexus player in a price range that is affordable. Plus with Google assistant and home minis, they could have far superior integration with content providers like Netflix and YouTube.

"ADT-1" I still have one. Pretty useless since no one bothers to research a way to run Linux on it. Otherwise it will be a great mini desktop superior to RPi.

Google chromecast?

Doesn't work with many apps.. Requests a separate device to cast from.. not quite like some TV experience wise
