Google Cloud profits: $191m Sundar’s comp: $226m. Also even the $191 profit is thanks to an accounting trick. Cloud had to pay millions on severance to a portion of the 12,000 people laid off this year. But this expense was transferred from Cloud’s books to a general Google-wide budget named “miscellaneous”.
Which means it's now profitable. Severance is a temporary expense.
Don’t come to interview here, it’s not the paradise you were sold. It’s all cutbacks for us peasants, while funnelling $$ to upper management these days. Also don’t bother interviewing because there’s no headcount anywhere since the Jan 20 layoffs. You’ll just pass all coding rounds, get stuck on team matching, or worse - pass hiring committee, then a VP would refuse to approve the headcount. There are a dozen posts like this on Blind. I don’t know why we do this to candidates. To preserve what prestige is left? Maybe recruiters have to justify their existence to avoid layoffs? I can’t tell anymore.
