Why has Shopify partnered with Facebook on their latest eCommerce Facebook Shops launch? I thought it is going to negatively impact their business? #shopify #facebook

Instagram has been one of the more successful commerce platforms and advertising channels over the past few years. It makes sense that Facebook would try to expand that to their core platform. I’m not sure why Shopify wouldn’t want to be the facilitator of this initiative for them as it is just an additional channel that it can facilitate for its clients.
My concern is that Shopify could lose more sales to FB if FB decides to add more rich features to the commerce platform (given the fact that FB has offered end-to-end features of the commerce)
They could (eventually) - but that would undermine the point of the “partnership”. Facebook is getting a cut from Shopify to facilitate something that is outside its wheelhouse. It sounds like Shopify will be the orchestration layer for merchants on Facebook Shops. If not all, then many. Meaning FB is just another channel for Shopify to offer merchant customers its services. Facebook could certainly do it themselves, but that’s always been the case. Getting a portion of the action is better than getting none of it. And while FB could decide down the line to kick them out once it takes off, that’s a calculated risk. Social media as commerce channels is inevitable. Being a part of facilitating that is a major win for Shopify.

Question about women in their 30’s?
This “new launch” has been live for a few years. Shopify powered some of Ig Shopping
My question would be similar to you then. Why does Shopify want to do it? How does it not negatively impact their business?
How can it be negative? It’s an acquisition channel.
