Been doing a bit of research on grad programs to enroll in while I work. I am fully narrowed down to UIUC (MCS) vs CMU (MSE). I have read online in a few different places that CMU is largely a cash cow. Why? Their cohort in total for all MSE (Masters of Science in Software Engineering) is less than 100. UIUC totals in the thousands for enrolled and GTech is far higher than that. With such small cohorts how can they be considered cash cows? The career outcomes seem pretty good as well... Is having an MSE on your resume from CMU seen as not prestigious? If so, can someone explain? #engineering #software #swe #masters #CMU #MIT #Berkeley #UCB #UIUC #Stanford #Meta #Google #Netflix #Amazon
GT charges like $6k total and has to be supported by grants to cover the rest of the costs. How much is that CMU degree?
MS in Software Engineering doesn't make sense as a course. You learn software engineering by doing stuff, no need to pay 125k in tuition for that.

Because it’s the Silicon Valley campus?
How does that make it a cash cow
