Why is Google loosing at AI?

I can’t figure this out. They have Deepmind which has done some of the most brilliant things in AI. They invented the transformer. They had Hinton, the godfather of AI. They have enormous compute resources including their own AI processor line which they’ve had for years. And when they finally did come out with something, turns out the demo was fake. What’s going on inside Google such that they’re losing the AI war this badly with the advantages they have. How have they screwed up this badly?

incompetent MBAs running the show

Have you ever worked at Google? It's a engineering driven culture. The largest issue Google has is they suck at sales and business innovation. They can build countless ideas but nothing the market wants outside of the tried and true. It's quite opposite the MBA culture.

Lmfao it’s a promo driven culture, I used to work at Google X such a shit show. Everyone only cares about making stuff that gets them credit and promos, no one cares about how to turn anything into a sustainable business. Google found a gold mine in search has been riding that into the sunset

Monoculture? Is'nt Google like 47% Asian and another 42% White folks. You want it to be like 99% Asian???

They’re not losing. Try some of their AI tools

Google is the least diversified company in Bay Area. So far in its 2 decades of existence, Google has had exactly 1 successful profitable business that has been material to its success: search ads. Everything else has been and will be an expense until Google’s demise. There is still another decade or two (maybe more?) of money-printing before search ads monopoly money runs out though.

Culture. Haven’t worked at Google but working at Meta, there too much many people making decisions. This really slows things down. Compared to a start up, there may be a handful of people making decisions and you won’t have to get approval from 20 different people to make one change.

All big companies tend to suffer from this unless conscious decisions are taken to fix it.

They don’t have enterprise products to showcase the power of AI.

Snyk iRrT62 OP Jan 1

Uh, google workspace is pretty popular. Also, they need to showcase it to consumers. If they don’t get on with creating an AI experience that consumers want to use to enhance or replace basic search, they will lose their golden goose. I know about search generative experience but where is it.

Google is already done. It is a new era.
