Why is IBM going back to hardware?

They’re investing in on premises server hardware, Microsoft and amazon will be selling that soon because cloud isn’t for everyone
Did they get their strategy wrong in 2015 when they sold hardware division and now doing a U-turn

Yes storage brand hiring since 2018
IBM got out of commodity hardware, not custom systems, which have much higher margins.
Security. Simple as that.
IBM is a marketing company, they are very good at selling a product which does not exist. They publish cutting edge technology only for show biz. Once you deep dive its all gas.
IBM has always had it's fingers in the Fab process tech game... Lot of synergies with cloud/block chain... They still sell some servers too. Think of it as complimentary to their services business.
