Why is Jobs idolized? What had he done that is to be looked up to?

This weirdo had all the qualities needed to make him a very interesting person. Clearly a high potential character for biopics, which he got multiple of. But why is this misanthropic hippie tech marketer all but worshiped? The strength of Apple's brand is undeniable, but is the extent of the late "visionary's" contribution really just successfully applying "keep it simple [for] stupid" as an entrepreneur in consumer electronics, or is there more?

I don't worship him at all. He was against philanthropy, couldn't be bothered to get a license plate, and created a shit product that it's best quality was it's packaging.

Also parked in handicapped parking spots, because why not? https://www.cultofmac.com/2613/steve-jobs-still-parking-in-handicapped-spaces-the-pictures/

Gotta give him a little credit though, at least he didn't invent Windows.

Because the world mostly consists of a mass of morons

Same as designers like/for Gucci, Versace, Jimmy Choo, Rolex, Rolls Royce, Maserati, and others are 'worshipped' - only more people were able to afford Apple with the help of their telecom providers.

Don't forget he was a piece of shit who lied about being sterile to avoid paying for his child. Even when he became unfathomably wealthy.

He was a snappy dresser.

He was good at making people produce innovative products. He was not a good person though

Agreed; he single-handedly suggested features that made the McIntosh more "fun" than anything available for years into the future. A huge part of McIntosh was mac paint and all the textures but that wasn't part of the bitmap programs (doodle) that we had at Xerox Office Systems Division where I used to work. The Mac was a blast to use - like a Tesla it was the most fun thing you could buy for the ENTIRETY of the 1980s... It took Microsoft a full 10 years to even get close to the Mac GUI with Windows 95. Some parts were pure Steve Jobs ideas like the idea of dropping docs on printers to print them. He pestered the developers until The Mac booted in under 10 seconds flat. He gave the Mac a cute but revolutionary personality (big brother commercial of 1984). He set up opposing teams to produce the MacIntosh II - the first PC with a color picture language combining the best ideas from both teams, and all the hardware to compete with the PC-AT (i386). He made the iPod happen. He made the iPhone happen. Nothing much has happened since he's been gone.

ITT: Blind doesn’t know what it’s talking about. What else is new?

Citibank $$>RSU Dec 9, 2018

The disconnect here is that he’s an alpha. That’s why this question will never be properly answered nor understood on blind. It’s like trying to explain color to someone born blind. Useless.

Oracle vxc4i Dec 9, 2018

Yes for Alpha - along with several of his contemporaries, led to competition and useful conflict. Unfortunately, no one else takes the 'Alpha' mantle in the industry right now.

Don’t forget about musk. Alpha genius at its finest.

Leaving aside his personal failures I think this is why he is idolized. Created the first friendly personal computer. (mostly woz's design). Put his stamp on personal computing with Macintosh. Got kicked out of Apple and created NeXT. Comes into contact with animation geniuses and creates Pixar. Pixar becomes wildly successful. Stages a comeback to Apple. Revolutionized the music industry first with iTunes and then with iPod. Creates the Apple store experience and sets up Apple as a luxury or a desirable product. Then came iPhone and iPad. Drives the push to cloud with iCloud. Essentially he revolutionized the personal electronics scene and created the first end to end integrated consumer experience.

Summed up well.
