What is the point of laying off 25% of your staff and having job openings a month later?
The person who scrubs the recruiting site about open reqs was laid off as well. Hence proved ...
Sorry but what does this mean?
No idea
Cheaper replacement labor
But I heard that they are not low balling as well, giving them good salaries like usual
They just have not remove the postings, but paid for them.
All companies have tones of openings. All the time. Most are not real. Either waiting for golden man or they post it because someone is moving internally and sometimes it’s just auto refreshing.
Laid off 12% of engineering, select few openings for critical roles. Can’t fill critical roles with lowest performers
I saw employee list sheet shared by Lyft exec and some laid off engineers got promo few months ago. It's a bullshit to blame the victims without sharing any proof that they were lowest performers. How much is Lyft paying you to post here?
Looks like this lyft guy is one among the team who laid off the team saying the employees are shit. So he is talking all this bull shit.

job ads tend to stay up.
No, the ones who applied to those ads are actually getting calls too
The postings are real
Lift stock went up by 15% before earnings call after layoff news. Layoff is a temporary tactic to bump up stock price.
It's partly optics for wall street. Lyft was struggling to expand across geographies or expand into other businesses within US. The bikes and scooters is a low margin business and for rentals there is much competition. L5 is heading no where and is a massive cost center showing hardly any progress compared to its peers. In such a scenario it was difficult to justify significantly dropping ride volumes by doing nothing outrageous. Layoffs were a writing on the wall, sad some of our colleagues couldn't see it. Very sad to see some really amazing engineers let go. Some who were promoted 6 months back or were going to get promoted in June/July cycle.
Not sure about struggling to expand when q4 results were like >50% growth year over year. So growth was fine till pandemic hit the company. It is now struggling because of only one vertical generating revenue and the company laying off anyone as they please has hurt many employees and orgs.
