I grew up in USA and I see so many posts about civil services like UPSC UPS Officer and movies like 12th fail or shows like Aspirants. In America government jobs are no where near as prestigious especially a police officer lol. Even though tech is supposed to be the big career in India, why so much hype about civil services?
Because it is not possible to live with any kind of dignity in North India until you have a close relative in an administrative job in govt. Even the lowliest govt employee wields so much power. He/She can show you your real worth in society (=you're worthless) at any point in life. Everyone wants to live with dignity and respect. That's why the craze for being in the govt.
Want a driving license? Lol. Want to construct a house on your own land? Lolol Want your child admitted in a good school? Lololol Want a BH series registration number for your vehicle? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You did not grow up in umreeka!!
It’s the power people are obsessed with and 100% job security. You get multiple opportunities to earn huge money. Personally I feel IIT/IIM/IAS are all overrated just for business purposes of various coaching institutes. I know many of them without having neither of them yet doing extremely well over here in US
Could be an Asian thing. Concepts like prestige, service, power had a greater pull than money. All rolled over Colonial era systems and policies. Bureaucrats in mansions, having staff members to help with household tasks
Prestige. Power and on top all Bribe money is lot as you grow in the govt job your % increases.
Job security (you can never get fired), ability to take loads of bribe, endless number of government holidays so you barely work, too much power, reputation, free housing, etc.
