Seriously, why is everyone here so enamored with Google? Is it really the best tech company to work at? Or is it just some weird thing on blind? I'm a new grad with an offer from Google, but don't see what makes them that much better than other tech companies. Why makes them so great, especially for entry level?
It has true engineering driven cuture. You get paid extra for being oncall. Has best benefits. This are few of the things that make it better then other FAANG
Really? Googlers get paid extra for on-call? How much?
Look it up on moma
Just think, how much impact G has on your life vs MS.. you will find your answer. Second part is that G is very selective in hiring. So you get validated.
Just remember, engineering driven culture isn't always the best thing. It means the company will sometimes build products that dont address a real customer need, often be late to market, move ridiculously slow because everybody is trying to do it "right" instead of doing it fast, and four different groups will be implementing slightly different versions of the same thing (though this happens everywhere in big tech to some extent). I am highly technical, but at this point in my career, appreciate the product-centric and customer-obsessed nature of a company like Amazon over the Google engineering-first culture.
16 yoe part doesn’t give your statement any more credibility
Will remove it and save my bio for later. But that's just standard Blind etiquette not an effort at credibility. My arguments stand on their own merits.
Every time G comes after me I just say nah. When companies go past 4K employees you become a number and have little overall impact. I love that I can point to a specific product and say “Yup, that’s mine. I did that”
Welcome to Microsoft.
No, you have bigger and more complicated problems when you work at a company the size of Google. The problems I work on are complex.
It’s the free espresso
Which Microsoft also has?
Tell me your secrets where is the free espresso 👀
Good for retirement
Goog has the best engineering systems, processes, thoughtful senior people, cares for employees like no other place. You need to work in other companies to see how good google is.
Pay, good wlb (supposedly), and looks good on your resume. Kinda hits most of people's checklist. Work wise, I imagine they're similar to any other tech companies (i.e. team dependent), but probably better than average.
Group think. Let's see if they continue to grow. If they don't, prestige will wear off.

(SWE) Is the job market improving?
Well son, once you have worked for a couple of soul grinding companies where you don't matter and the employer makes sure to remind you at every step, then you will realize the value of company that's engineering focused and that the company actually appreciates you.
What about other companies that have good WLB like Microsoft? Is it that Google pays more than Microsoft (they seem about equal for new grad)?
It's the work culture. Microsoft is notorious for having a bad work culture.
