Why is football called football?
The world calls it football, and we call it soccer and then call a different sport football. And that sport doesn’t even have a close association with feet and the ball. Why is this the way the world is? If I invented a new sport, I wouldn’t call it basketball and then not really use a basket and constantly have to say “no, not that sport that everyone else is referring to, but my newly invented sport of the same name.”

And Americans call nba champion world champion. Call baseball final world series. WTF?
I mean, if another country wants to step up in basketball or baseball and beat an American team then we can have a conversation about this...

Because it is a derived form of rugby football which dropped the rugby. Europeans used to call football "Association football" and it became soccer. But then they reverted back to using football as the name because Americans called it soccer also.
