Why is insurance for a Tesla so expensive?

What insurance do people who currently own one have? Any recommendation? I’ve ZERO violation whatsoever and 5 years of driving experience (29 yo now) Still quotes from most insurance companies are 4k+ if I want comprehensive coverage. (Geico gave me a $8k quote - WTF?)

Any good?

Top of all coverage options. Better than my progressive insurance before which was double the cost and half the coverage

It’s expensive because they’re safe and can only be repaired by Tesla (annoying). Most crashes are a total loss for insurance companies.

They know you can afford it so they milk you

There are no third party component vendors, Tesla is extremely slow to ship replacement parts, repairs only at few locations requiring specialized equipment/training, unknown liability of "autopilot" software...take your pick

Is your wallet also too small for your 100 dollar bills? Lol! Jk! They are expensive coz they know they can loot you and you will be okay. Also Tesla makes it so by having a shitty prod line.

Huh, how much does Tesla insurance cost?

Google tesla_ OP Jul 8, 2019

~3.5k, gives or takes

Microsoft hitmonchan Jul 8, 2019

I’m only paying $800/year bundled with my home insurance. $1000 deductible.

Google tesla_ OP Jul 8, 2019

What’s your driving history? That’s cheaper then my quote for a used car!

Microsoft hitmonchan Jul 8, 2019

I had a speeding ticket but it was like over 7 years ago. Some parking tickets which were paid on time.

Not much actuarial data yet. On traditional cars you can extrapolate quite reliably from similar models when a new model is introduced, not in this case. Depending on how data turns up the cost may go down once the large amount Of observations collected
