See poll. Blind tax - L6 SDE 500k Bay
They always did pay a lot. Meta is ready to pay a lot for top talent. While Google etc. were a part of the salary fixing agreement, Zuck said fuck it, we want to get the best. They forced the rest to pay a lot, have some appreciation.
Thatās fair. I do appreciate the overall jump coz of meta.
The real question is, how?
š¤
Senator, we run ads.
L6 500k sf bay is missing $100-$200k.
How much should an l6 at Amazon be making? Curious as expecting an offer from them
L6 at amz != L6 at Google or fb. Yes they'll say top line l6 at amz is "equivalent" but for most cases it isn't.
Is WLB there bad?
Like anywhere it depends on the group. Overall it seems like there are less low WLB groups than Amazon. Though I'm not sure that's a good comparison point...
No. Can't remember when I last worked after six, before nine or in the weekend.
People often attribute it to Zuckās choice to pay high for SWEe. No way to confirm it obv
Heās the CEO!
Its amusing how everyone thinks it will be extinct in a few years lol
If Meta can become extinct, what happens to LinkedIn? Just asking
Thereās an obvious difference between the two š
I just got a 500+ l5 offer though. So this (like all TC posts must be) is a LOWBALL!
L5 in your context is Sr? Hate how Amazon mucks up the leveling. L5 at Amazon is mid. So OP is Sr at Amazon.
Yeah senior, but I'm kidding about low-ball. This is blind, so everyone thinks they're getting lowballed
The perm immigration process concerns have hold back a lot of non-American applicants. So Meta needs to pay higher to attract people from the a smaller candidate pool
Sooo.... H1B really does suppress wages. Former H1B person here. I really thing this is a part of it for sure. The other is that Meta has always paid better, or top of the market, and they arse is on fire and have to innovate. Google, MSFT, and others are in a more cushy/monopolistic position and they just need drones to maintain what they have, and don't have to pay top market.
+1 to "Google, MSFT ... just need drones to maintain what they have". I've worked at Google for almost 10 years. In that time we've gone from being an idealistic disruptor to a company that seems mostly interested in just keeping dominance in fields where we're already ahead (Search, Ads) and copying AWS. It's harder than it was 5-10 years ago to find opportunities to do anything innovative.
Meta is the modern day digital equivalent of a cigarette company IMO. If they paid the industry average, why would anyone want to work there? Facebook as a product is no longer appealing the way it once was when it appealed to the younger/university crowd. One could argue the company has a net negative effect on society with respect to misinformation, mental health, etc. The Metaverse is a product nobody is asking for and nobody gives two shits about (aside from Meta employees). Anything they have that IS somewhat interesting was acquired (oculus, WhatsApp). If they didnāt pay well I canāt imagine why it would attract talent.
So why do Google and Apple want to come out with VR devices if the Metaverse is so dumb?
VR doesnāt necessarily imply a metaverse does it? To be honest I donāt follow the VR/AR/metaverse space all that closely so I have no idea what apple or google are doing. But Google seemingly makes lots of products just because they can - not because theyāre necessarily a good idea š¤·āāļø On a technical level it seems like a very interesting problem to work on, Iām just not sure the public shares the same enthusiasm. Just a quick search on the Metaverse is full of apathetic opinion pieces. Perhaps the vision is too far ahead and one day Zuck will make us all believers but it doesnāt seem like that day is here yet.
