Why is the WLB at Facebook so bad despite hiring tons of Engineers?

It’s the ‘culture’

Amazon checkPls Jun 15, 2019

Cult-ure

Facebook Leo Messi Jun 15, 2019

I blame the impact driven culture. People move on after shipping shit and claim “launched”.

Oracle iwantfang Jun 15, 2019

Exactly why I heard the wlb sucks in aws. Short term gains.

Oracle iwantfang Jun 15, 2019

And probably the best, given the interviews are so difficult. Or they way these interviews work is wrong

Microsoft dolt Jun 15, 2019

Managers don't know how to manage effectively and young kids willing to burn themselves out because they don't know any better.

Oracle iwantfang Jun 15, 2019

I doubt it

Facebook nyn00b Jun 15, 2019

Honestly if you ever go to the menlo park campus, its literslly the best place to be around there. So people stay because what else would you do? Eat worse food for more money?

Citrix Systems XDOa40 Jun 15, 2019

How bad??

Facebook QdeD76 Jun 15, 2019

PSC culture. Everyone driving for that Exceeds. Must have impact or you’re out.

Lyft ihb47 Jun 15, 2019

Aka hyper political

Facebook pddddrrr Jun 15, 2019

Facebook is extremely bloated. The fact that we still hire like crazy means there’s more competition for impact within any part of the app with every single new hire. We are not successful much starting new products and we can’t stretch FB family of apps indefinitely. The more we hire - the more shitty experiments we are able to run, and new feature or experiment failure rate is just increasing. But guess what, you still need to meet all the high expectations for your level. So people end up working crazy hours.

How many employees does fb have

Facebook Leo Messi Jun 16, 2019

I bet close to 40k now? Double that if contractor included

Amazon JM4S12 Jun 15, 2019

Is it true FB pays for employees to freeze their embryos, so you can have a kid when you’re not working 70 hours a week?

Amazon JM4S12 Jun 15, 2019

I remember reading that somewhere. May have been The Onion, but still curious.

Facebook yo-yo yo Jun 15, 2019

Yes
