Topic 1: I don’t get it. You take the order from the customer Then communicate that to the kitchen. Pick up the food from kitchen and bring it to customer. Provide water and check with customer. Why does this work required to be tipped? Topic 2: Why are we encouraging Starbucks all of a sudden include an option for tips now? Aren’t these drinks expensive and high margin enough to pay the baristas? If we encourage companies like Starbucks and Panera. Worker salaries go down and tipping will be mandated just as restaurant industry, then good luck ordering almond milk double espresso light foam with sprinkle of cinnamon P.S. before you all eat me with your comments. I always tip 15-20% as tip.
i heard it was a uniquely American thing
There’s literally a million article/posts/threads whatever on this topic. Go read them.
another day, another h1b complaining about tipping
Yeah, but good luck finding ones that are critical of the practice. Mostly they all say "Do it or you're a bad person"
Move somewhere else, in Europe we never tip in restaurants and that's okay
Move to India. please stop making the 1000th thread on this topic.
because Americans are highly regarded and love embracing dumb rituals
I particularly like the one where they stand at a podium and slap each other in the face until someone goes unconscious.
It’s a century (exaggeration?) old debate. I love some small businesses removing tip practice but long way to go. Biden or next presidents can address this. Didn’t Biden want to remove this resort/amenity fee crap charged by hotels?
Next Post: “Why are taxes so high” Then: “Poor people should just make more money” Then: “I’m sorry they are poor but it’s not my job to give back to the community which overpays me” The odds are very good you make orders of magnitude more money than you (or any of us) are actually worth, so while you’re here maybe you can give a little back to the normal people who have to put up with tech bros everyday.
You successfully managed to not answer the question.
So all education is useless. Doctors and Engineers are in same category as waiters. You can as well not educate your kids. All the sacrifices made in school and college when those waiters were chasing girls n getting laid are not worth it.
You ask a good question OP. Tips should be optional. The culture of "ooh, but you should give back to the community" is total BS as that argument can be used to any extreme.
The customer has more to lose than the worker if an altercation occurs from not wanting to pay a tip. Notice how only poor people are serving your meals and delivering your food?
