Why no performance reviews for middle managers?

My manager steals all the team's work and reports it to higher ups and external teams as his own. He will only glorify his favorites in a grand manner but ignore the others. What do you do if your manager hates you to the absolute core and doesn't let you do anything except grunt meaningless work? How to survive in a team where everyone constantly tries to put you and your work down and offers no help/constructive feedback and discriminates like crazy? Please don't mention quitting or internal HR route. #semiconductor
