Why not Snap?

I’m noticing the general consensus re Snap is to absolutely not work there. I applied and have an interview lined up so can someone fill me in on the reason(s) why it’s a bad idea to work there please?

If you join in Dec they'll grant RSU using Oct and Nov avg price. Figure out the discount before saying "the RSUs are a lot"

It all depends on what you perceive Snap to be? Is it a product? Or is it a feature masquerading as a product? Why has the stock price tanked so much? Do they have a vision for growth? Or would they have their lunch eaten by FB at every step? The answers to those questions will give you more clarity than a tab of acid ever will.

Acid still helps and at the same time you have valid points 😉

Twitter was in a similar position a few years ago with declining/plateauing MAU/DAU. Their stock rebounded because they started to drastically increase revenue from their existing users and make profit. If Snap can do the same (reach profitability), their stock’s going to do a lot better. Q3 results look good for revenue (43% increase). Of course, leadership can still screw it up badly. A lot of people internally want to leave because their equity packages have been halved. But if they can stop the cash bleed and decelerate DAU loss, they’ll be fine.

A lot of people seem to be jumping on an uninformed bandwagon of “ooo Snap is dead”. Snap has a lot of very invested stakeholders (see: Tencent) and talented engineers. Their comp is still very competitive. Even if IG is killing them, I still believe Snap has a solid chance of a rebound! :)

People want others to fail, that’s why

I see snap being acquired. Acquirer is the unknown. Not sure who buys them; Verizon has kind of been the bottom of the barrel last acquirer for some other deals (the remains of Yahoo)

Snap has huge cloud spend commitments with Amazon and Google that were based on user numbers going up at the pre-Instagram rates. Even if they find a way to raise ARPU (revenue per user) they still postponed some of the guaranteed cost, so they are fucked once the full bill becomes due.

Evan Spiegel is such a Twat. I would not go there just because of that guy.

Facebook gywtb Nov 1, 2018

I agree with some of the prior commenters that a Twitter-like turnaround on the back of increasing ARPU is not unlikely I also think that it takes a lot longer for a social media company to actually really die than people seem to think (due to network effects etc). they’re still massively popular among young people since they have monthly vesting and no cliff, I wouldn’t worry so much about business concerns if you’re willing to sell RSUs every month and jump ship at any time. would apply a 25% discount to their quoted RSU figure my main concern would be employee morale and attrition and general culture. it would be toxic to work in a place that’s overwhelmingly pessimistic and with leaders leaving left and right

It's a fun place to work if you're on a good team. You should decide on whether you believe in the product before joining

The only good position is CEO. Everyone else sucks.
