To solve the production issue, why doesn’t Rivian build oversea factories? The labor will be cheaper and more hardworking, probably a lot more incentives from the foreign governments than the US government, possibly result in better build quality as well. Think Tesla, it had production issues before, Tesla solved it by opening factories globally, in China/Germany/Mexico…
Hardworking is a euphemism for labor human rights abuse
If you import stuff into US you pay import taxes, you need to cover extra logistic cost and overhead, so it’s not always much cheaper. Plus there is a bigger risk people copying your products (especially if you move production to China).
Can move to Mexico
I think it’s better to have first factory on US for better collaboration with design teams. Normal IL probably not the best location in the US but we acquired the site for next to nothing. Tesla production issues had more to do with maturity of product and factory systems vs labour issues. Rivian is the same in that regard. Tesla has been building cars for over 10 years now, we have only been in production for a little over a year. The problems we have are all solvable, but will take some time. Production has improved a over the last year and will continue to improve a lot over the next year.
You’re either not on the floor or plain ignorant, anyone that thinks that production improved has no idea of what’s going on in the plant. The only reason output increased since Q4 ‘22 is because we’ve been abusing the operations teams into building 24/7 including Saturday’s and almost every Sunday, we can’t keep “ramping up” by increasing the shift anymore… we’re already at max capacity and burning cash from all the OT that we pay almost 100% of Normal workforce
There will be no one left to solve the problems Massive brain drain occurring right now The plant is a fucking nightmare to work at
So much lack of understanding of mfg….by this thought process developed countries shouldn’t have any factories. Rivian’s production problems are choices they made in manufacturability, design, location, plant tooling. The Shanghai gigafactory did not magically solve Tesla production problems, it added capacity and expanded the company. Bmw produces 1500 vehicles a day in SC and 60% are exported, Wolfsburg typically produces 4000 vehicles a day…it’s not an issue of the country it’s everything that goes into the mfg system that is the issue.
You forgot to mention the biggest issue, our management is brain dead.

The massive EV tax credits that were passed under Biden will only apply to US produced vehicles.
Interesting, so the Tesla cars produced outside of US are only sold in foreign markets?
Tesla has factories all over. Buy a Tesla in the U.S. and it’s the most American made car you can buy
