Microsoft offers are typically significantly lower than other FAANGS. I imagine the work will be the same or better at other places. Growth opportunities also probably same or better. And despite their reputation for a good WLB, that’s not been the experience of anyone I know in Azure who is looking to grow. So quite honestly, why should anyone join Microsoft if they have offers from any other FAANG type companies even if they are at lower levels? Does anyone ever choose Microsoft over FAANGs? Curious to hear from people who have worked at Msft before/after other FAANGs.
Because you are in Amazon.
Lol. I will pick Amazon any day over Ms.
Yes for online shopping.
Most people don’t join Microsoft if they have better offers. Some do, either because of WLB or they like the team/work.
You shouldn’t
I have reneged an offer from msft😎
Yeah good for you! How's life at pip factory?
I renege ms for google. No regrets
It’s funny how folks from Amazon will always say “FAANG”. It’s like the long lost glory that they’re still trying to hold on to.
I don’t care I’m just using the blanket term. Call it whatever. I’m just comparing it with other high paying public companies with great tech talent. If it makes you happy, let’s call it FAMG.
@cisco That's too much reading into one's comment, why so salty?
I hope when you say faang you are not including amazon 😀
Microsoft comp is similar to Amazon, but much better benefits which to me makes Microsoft the winner of the two. The others all beat out microsoft in comp tho. I think a lot of ppl also want to work for a company that they respect and appreciate. The only faang I would leave microsoft for would be Google.
I came from MSFT and am now at FB. I wasn’t in Azure but WLB was extremely good. Very much a rest and vest mindset. No risk of any kind of poor review. I’m a fan of a faster pace, more opportunity for growth, and more progressive culture so prefer FB but I can see why MSFT appeals to some ppl.
Did you feel the slower pace was because- - less hustle culture/more balanced mindset? - red tape/politics/approvals - technical challenges (complex code with many dependencies, compliance issues) Also curious which team in Azure had the good WLB.
Lot of ppl who did nothing, lots of red tape, no sense of urgency, insanely old code no one wanted to touch that made even seemingly small changes a mess.
