While I was looking for job few months ago, I observed many companies including indian outsourcing companies like tcs, wipro and infy and other small to mid companies as well do not entertain H1B. Only citizens, green card holders and h4 ead were allowed. So only option I had was big product companies like Amazon, meta etc or small-mid consulting companies like mastech etc. Fortunately i got job in Amazon. But has anyone else too noticed this trend? If yes, anyone knows why so?
Not sure how you are arriving at that conclusion, the number of H1B applications has increased over the past five years. If companies didn’t want H1Bs, we would expect that number to drop.
The demand is as you stated on the job seeker side not the employer side. Even if there was one job available, that doesn’t mean there won’t be thousands of applicants.
The question OP posed was about companies. I challenge the premise of the question as the number of applications for H1Bs filed by companies has increased over the past five years, not decreased.
I dont know if you were actively looking for a job in last year or so, where recruiter will straight away hang up phone when they come to know you are on H1B.
TCS,Wipro, Infy likely hire H1B folks but some times hire local resources because of the pressure to hire local talents (GC/citizen).
WITCH is under the radar of govt because of exploitation of work visa. So they are hiring only US citizen, GC holders. Also I read somewhere there was an internal memo that said do not hire people of Indian origin, because that can make them look worse in the eyes of govt. Basically they are in the damage control mode from years of visa exploitation.
Exactly this is what i thought.
Why would they hire h4 ead if they want local talent?

... the original purpose of H1B was to provide for a mechanism to get talent unavailable domestically. Given we are heading into a recession, the supply of labor is higher now, which means the supply of domestic tech talent is higher and as a result demand for H1B is reduced. TLDR, it's supply and demand, supply of a ready substitute (domestic labor) is higher, thereby decreasing demand for H1B labor.
Thank you! People forget what the purpose of these visas are. Any country that is in a recession is going to have a pick at the local labor market. Plus why spend money on sponsorship if they don't have to.
