It was 6.50$ and I don’t see tax on my receipt. Is there any minimum threshold amount of purchase above which the sales tax comes into picture? PS: so hot food items are excluded from taxes across USA? #misc
no sales tax is charged on hot beverages, hot bakery goods, and cold prepared foods if ordered "to go." https://www.brandeating.com/2008/05/for-here-or-to-go-califorinias-sales.html
Thanks a lot. But it’s 2008. But still gave me a good idea of things.
6.50 without tax? Huh..
$6.5 for a cup of shitty starbucks coffee, give me a break
You are carrying a cup that ppl take a lot of pictures with...thats why
Coffee is consider food... ca isn't a high tax state like wa or TX that taxes food.
So, hot food items across USA are excluded from taxes?
No. It depends on the state. Every state taxes different things differently (or not at all). But when you are charged sales tax it will always be stated on your receipt
Wa does not tax food
Yes, it does. Do you mean WA doesn’t tax groceries?
Hot beverages to go are not taxes I believe.
So what happens if a user buys 25$ gift card of doordash/Starbucks and then use it to buy coffee. Will user pay sales tax on 25$?
Why the gift card matters here?
