At the end of the 47/48 war the Arabs controlled Gaza and the entire West Bank as well as half of Jerusalem. Israel declared itself a state in the land it controlled. Why didn't Gaza and the West Bank declare independence as a Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital? It was under Arab control for nearly twenty years until they started another war and lost it again
Pretty simple - they were promised and believed that them be able to eventually wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Creating a state would mean defining borders and, indirectly, a recognition of the Israeli state. Their aim to eliminate all the jews did not start with hamas
It may come as a surprise to you, there were Jewish Palestinians before the state of Israel was established. The problem is most of the jews who ended up in Israel were European jews so to the Palestinians they were outsiders.
Wrong. Most Israelis are from middle east origin. 20% are non Jews. 40% are Jews expelled from the Arab countries.
Donāt know much but afaik England own it before
You donāt declare your a state if other hegemony states like the US and parts of Europe say they wonāt recognize your state. Yet they recognize the other one due to whatever reason. Ideally other powers should recognize the state and enact the many resolutions held back by the us and its veto in the security council. Dive into facts and made your own judgement.
All western countries literally agreed on the two state solution, nice joke
You think after calling for a Palestinian state the UN wouldn't have recognized it?
Arabs were living there but it was under British control. Naturally, the Arabs wanted the full land to be handed over to them like many other British colonies which were handed over to the original people (like India, Malaysia etc.). Instead the UN decided to divide the land which were the home of Arab Palestinians. As a result, many Palestinians were expelled from their homes during the nakba. "until they started another war and lost it again" - that is not true. The 1967 war was initiated by Israel completely unprovoked. They then tried to blame it on Egypt.
āCompletely unprovokedā - you canāt just evacuate a DMZ and amass soldiers on the border and pretend that you arenāt provoking your neighbour, not to mention the blockade of the strait of tiran
Didn't Egypt blockade Israel? Blockades are usually considered acts of war. And then built a huge invasion force on the Israeli border while openly saying they would invade Israel? I guess Israel struck first but the blockade, invasion force, and public statements seem like at least provocation? Anyway my question is why no Palestinian state in 1948. If Gaza had been Palestinian Egypt wouldn't have been able to put an army there.
The UN recommended a Palestine state and Israeli state with an international Jerusalem (like Vatican City), but it was ignored.
Ignored by the Arabs who started a war the day of the UN resolution. The Jews accepted it but had no choice but to fight back. Luckily they prevailed.
Wow, what an unbiased take
Typical English. Letās draw a line and call it a day. India and Pakistan turned out so well.
The 1948 line was the ceasefire line at the end of a war, it's not the one that British drew
I had the same thought, Palestine is here today is they themselves are also responsible.
To this day, not all the neighboring countries recognize Israel. If you look up the area or Jerusalem on Wikipedia, thereās a visual timeline of who it was ruled by. Jewish ownership has been a negligible part of history, a few years here and there over several thousand years. From their POV, Israel exists because faraway western powers such as the US prop it up. Which is not that different from the Crusade periodās Kingdom of Jerusalem disruptions that incidentally didnāt last that long. So, it shouldnāt be a surprise they think Israel will end up like the Kingdom of Jerusalem also, no matter how unrealistic that is at present.
But why wouldn't they create the Palestinian state? Even if they wanted to pretend it still contained all of Israel they could have created a Palestinian government in Jerusalem that had actual control over the whole West Bank and Gaza You would think they would at least do that, and then negotiate whatever final status with Israel over time They had that land for nearly two decades and never did it. Now it's their demand to create Palestine on 1967 borders, which is exactly what they didn't do when they had the chance.
No I would not think that, this is more becoming a question of why you would think that. They never had actual control after losing the 48 war. Perhaps youāve seen these 2 areas described as open air prisons. Declaring would merely invite more violence from Israel with no benefit.
Because the "Palestinians" don't want a state, they just want there to be no Jewish state.
I guess they gambled wanting it all.. why settle for a small portion?
Imagine you and your family and friends have been living in a place for generations. Suddenly, UN comes and says we are splitting the land you are living and giving the bigger half to these people who lived there thousands of years ago - so you have to pack up and live your homes. Would you accept it?
Bad things happen to good people all the time.. part of growing up is accepting things you don't like. This sort of thing has happened to a lot of people through the ages, nothing new.
