I'm not trolling. This is an honest question. Why do you currently/want to work at Facebook? -Pay? -It's fun to be at a company that is flush with cash so you can do whatever? -Do you have friends there you like to work with? I use Facebook, but it doesn't get me excited to work on. It's mostly about selling ads. Is there another thing not listed above? The product just doesn't seem that exciting/useful. I'm sure I'll be mocked a lot in the comments. That's fine. I imagine I'll learn something from a few folks.
Money is great. I wouldn't have come here if the offer wasn't so much better but I will probably find something else after a year.
I just wrote a whole long post but deleted it. Basically it feels like a cult that I'm not lucky enough to believe in let's leave it at that.
I'm interested in the longer version of the post.
Hard to complain when you're making half a million in hard cash (not paper money) every year
I will still complain
What level are you?
- It pays well - It's not Google. That's about it...
I'm here for the people, my money comes from other places. Genuinely enjoy my team both in and out of the office.
Do you like what you work on
Yes, I cannot think of anything I'd rather be doing at the moment
You dont have to enjoy Facebook the product to enjoy solving problems Facebook the company faces. And trust me, the 1.5B+ users give you a lot of hard problems.
That's what I thought but turns out I actually do have to care about what the end product is. I wish I didn't.
Well, depends which team you are on. Infra usually doea not care much about product decisions, though they spend a lot of effort supporting those decions.
I love the open culture. Zuck inspires me as a person and as a leader, and it's great to work for a company whose upper management has strong vision for the product (and communicates it well). The perks and money are great as well. My closest friend happens to work with me too, so that's awesome.
How's long have you been working in tech
I'm curious, how is that relevant?
I really enjoyed it. I feel very at home. Plus the pay is great!
Culture is actually pretty good, people more competent than other companies I have been at. Good perks.
No one else has mentioned this yet. For me, it's how much you can learn in a short period of time. Fb is a stepping stone for me. After a few years here, I feel much more equipped than I felt a few years after Microsoft.
My friend, after working at Microsoft the only good thing is to wipe your memory and start fresh. If you work selling Booz on the street, you'll be more equipped than working at Microsoft.
money is Good
