My wife has done masters from US university few years back. OPT is expired and she is on H4 visa now. My i140 is 1 year away at least. How can we go about finding a job for her? Is it possible to interview at any big techs now and expect them to file h1b in March 2022 Deloitte TC: 150k
Try google,Microsoft
I don't believe that is feasible. Firstly because you're looking for a company to sponsor her + expecting that she would be able to join that company by early February so that they can file paperwork by March. Probably check with your immigration attorneys for options, check on avvo.com (you'd need to pay after the initial consultation) or look for day 1 CPT universities.
If you don't mind, why wasn't she working all this time?
Have been in your wife's shoe before. Let me be completely honest with you: it's impossible. I have applied big companies who I know for sure would sponsor H1B, but once HRs heard that I didn't have OPT or CPT to bridge the gap, I was turned down immediately. I waited more than a year for my husband's 140. When I got EAD, I found a job within 1 month. Companies won't wait several months for you to start working. Now, my experience was before pandemic. There maybe a way for your wife to get a job during pandemic if she's willing to work remotely from her home country for a few months until she gets H1b. There are several drawbacks, of course. You have to live separately for a while and with pandemic it is unsure whether the border would be locked down again. And there is no guarantee that companies would agree. But at least it is theoretically possible. Hope you and your wife find a good solution. I completely understand the struggle your wife is going through. Good luck.
Try desiopt.com. there employers look to sponsor fresh h1
My experience during the pandemic - I was laid off in April 2020 while on H1B (spouse did not have i140 then) .Applied for H4 and continued to apply for jobs . Luckily I got a job but they sponsored after my 60 day grace period and I had to step out of the country to get stamped if not I couldn’t work (approved in counselor process).Due to the pandemic I couldn’t get stamped but I continued applying for jobs without any hope. I interviewed for another position and they were ready to do my H1B transfer .And this time it was approved and I started working without getting stamped. This is different from your wife’s situation because I already had a H1B and I did not go through the lottery . All I want to say is every case is different so don’t loose hope keep applying for jobs and prepare yourself by doing some courses or certification. Being unemployed sucks but make use of the time .Try to find a consultancy that can sponsor her and switch to a full time role by H1B transfer . Working with a consultancy can be tiresome - they prefer people they already know or they may cheat you.try to find someone in your circle that’s trustworthy.
and her major was?
MIS, Master in information systems and bachelor's in computer engineering from India
does she have work experience? i know you said she did OPT. if yes then just apply a whole bunch of companies or ask friends for referrals and update linkedin i’m not super optimistic about the March timeline
