Both me and my wife are permanently remote, we grew up in north east and haven't lived on the west coast. Thinking to move to Bay Area for following reasons: - 🌞 Great weather, can finally avoid depressing winters - 🥂 Have lot of friends working in the bay, social life will be better - 🏡 We stayed at our friends place in Danville and loved the area, thinking of purchasing a home there - 👔 better career opportunities, lots of great startups - 🏞️ lots of beautiful outdoors, national parks close by. We love nature I see lot of hate for bay on blind mostly due to high taxes and gov policies, our combined TC this year is around 920k, it may hover between 800-900k the next 4 years depending on stock price. Can we live comfortably on our TC while saving 50% of it atleast. 💰900k (combined household TC)
I think you will end up in the streets of san jose. I recommend not moving here with low tc
At your TC you’ll be fine. The Bay Area gets an especially bad rep if you need to work in SF or SJ. If you’re remote, don’t have the commute and can afford to live in an expensive suburb you’ll probably like it
Pretty typical rule of thumb for bay area is at least $2m x number of family members, and a net worth of 10x that number. So no
Where do you live?
Not bay area because <$2m tc
The weather is complete ass here do not move
Take a look at how hard taxes will hit. As for career, if you will be working remote the location doesn't matter as much. What would really be painful is if you move to a place like Danville and then need to commute through heavy traffic.
Remote for foreseeable future, taxes will increase by 4-5%
Beyond what has already been said - 1. Friend dynamics change as people grow up - after they get married and especially after having kids. It would be rare for friends circles to pull off the bar hopping, binge drinking and hard partying forever. 2. If access to National Parks is a prime criterion, then you got to look at places on Western slopes of Colorado or places like Salt Lake City.
Everyone is married and few of them have kids. Colorado and Utah are out of the question since we don’t know anyone there
Where does your wife work? Such cushy jobs!
She is in tech as well
900k HH TC is kinda norm these days in the Bay Area so your quality of life will decline in term of housing and spending.
With that TC, you are a king here!
