Recruiter told me the level would probably be the same as Google (L4/E4). Google has a current policy where they will not use your current comp to decide offers but they are more than happy to get into an arbitrary bidding war if you have competing offers. Does Facebook do the same thing or can I count on them trying to exceed my current comp? TC ~270k
They won't look at current pay (illigal) but they know the pay at your level so may adjust based on interview performance
It’s not illegal. It’s illegal for them to ask but not for them to use the information if I tell them. I guess you’re saying they are following Google and choosing to not use that information to level the playing field or some BS.
They won't look at it as data point. If you did well in the interview they will offer you a very competitive offer regardless.
Tell FB your comp expectations and your recruiter will do their best to get you there. Within reason of course.
I think I’ll ask for $300k though I know that’s high for E4. Not sure a jump is worth it otherwise. Maybe I get E5 then I don’t have to worry about this.
I’ll say that typically we don’t uplevel candidates from google, although it’s not impossible. System design is important but your cultural interview carries just as much weight if not more when quorum decides your appropriate level. YOE?
Facebook was not able to beat my current comp at Amazon. I hope you’re doing much better at google.
Mind sharing why you’re leaving Google?
Looking for something new. Bored in my current role. I haven’t been able to get a team transfer for any of the positions I’ve applied despite having the highest perf rating. It’s probably because I’m only applying to hot positions but still. I’d rather take my luck at FB. I like their rotation policy where they let you try a few teams.
Would you say it’s hard to transfer teams at G? Back at Amazon, people move around easily between different job families in different organizations. But Amazon is not recommended.
How will Google or FB know about your competing offers? No one gives you a written offer until you have verbally confirmed to accept right?
They ask. You can try to lie but recruiters are generally familiar with other offers and you better get it right. Also, they can ask for it in writing if they are suspicious.
You can definitely ask for the upper band for your level right? I understand if you ask a crazy salary they will get suspicious but if you are just pushing to the top comp for your level you should be fine.
