Long story short, I was really bad at time management and studying in college GPA: 2.3 but worked hard post grad to be in a decent job as a data analyst. I recently got an interview opportunity from Google for a similar role but they are asking for my college transcripts. Will my GPA be an automatic rejection or will I still have an opportunity for an interview and be able to explain/show how much I grew? #google #interview #gpa
Take your GPA off. You don’t need it anymore. Education should also be at the bottom of your resume now. Work experience and internships or projects should be at the top. Just say you have a BS from whatever university you graduated from and what the degree is. You don’t need to give more info than that.
Per the recruiter, they are requesting my transcript from the beginning.
Wait seriously? They know you have3 years experience right? If it’s a new grad role, maybe I’d understand, but that is definitely strange for a 2nd job especially after 3 years experience. If they HAVE to have it, I would send it in and follow it up with a note explaining why and how you have improved on those issues in your current job. If you can, provide metrics.
It's weird. I don't remember ever submitting my transcripts, either during the interview process or after joining Google.
Guess it's new? The candidate profile won't let me pass till I attach it lol
No it doesn't
I was recently asked for GPA with 10 years experience lol.
How'd it go? Was it brought up couple times during interview?
Lol wow. Why? How much of it really matters though?
Google asked for my transcripts too..

I got denied interview bc I told them I had accepted a promotion at my current company and they put me down to interview in 6 months, don’t think I was that strong of a candidate for the role and they didn’t want me playing games with them I’m guessing. The recruiter at least never commented on my bad grades at one uni but it was a competitive program. The program is hard to get into so I think they wanted to see I wasn’t making it up.
I thought they ask for transcripts just so you can’t lie about going to college? I didn’t think they cared about GPA
That’s what the recruiter basically told me
NOPE
I do have 3+ years so hopefully it won't hurt me. But as a safety measure, should I attach a reason for why my gpa sucks kind of explanation or just put it off until they ask about it if it happens?
GPA's a joke. American universities grades are ridiculously inflated. Kids get 4.9 and can't traverse a binary tree. Meanwhile, I other countries, students celebrate when they get 55/100 or 11/20 at their test... Show me your skills, show me your curiosity!
Depends on the school and program...some have upper levels where every test will be curved bc students are scoring 50-60%. 4.9 isn’t a normal US GPA other than a couple schools they’re mostly out of 4.0. But yeah agree with the sentiment of the post
