Will Google care if you’re interviewing and have already signed an offer?

So basically I messed up my interview timelines. I received an offer at a mid-tier company about 2 weeks ago and was planning on accepting the offer today. Today I received an email saying I passed the phone screen for Google. I had already postponed the acceptance and Google is known to be slow at the process, so I can’t postpone the acceptance anymore. I believe my chances at succeeding the on-site are slim, but I still want to do the interview for the experience. If by luck I manage to get an offer from Google, will this be rescinded if they find out during background check that I accepted an offer while interviewing for them? The email asks to list competing interviews and offers so I’m not sure what to put for that. If I get an offer I would quit to work for Google. At the same time, I’m going to sign my current offer since it’s the only one I have. Should I let them know up front that I have signed an offer? Does it matter?

Anything not related to Google is none of their business. Also, how’s a background check going to indicate that you accepted another offer?

I’m actually not sure what goes into a background check, but assumed that it shows past work history?

Google offer valids for a year. Depending on when you join the first company, but I’d advise you to join it asap, and then take your time to prepare for G onsite, push the onsite to 3-4 months from now. Then you can leave your company anytime after G offer. If onsite doesnt go well, you won’t regret what you choose today. And dont tell either company about offer or interview process. When you are near your onsite date, maybe just update your resume to reflect the new company. G doesnt care. Also why not interview with multiple companies? G will lowball you if you dont have competing offers.

I had already finished interviewing with multiple companies and have already rejected/didn’t get an offer.

Oh ok, you can try G then, or wait another year to do a round of interviews again.

What to say if he updates resume and they ask why looking so soon? If he doesn’t update resume, background check might confirm he no longer works there

No one asks that

Google is too big to care. A small HFT firm might care.

Lots of people accept other offers first then quit. It’s not an issue.

Just don’t tell them you’ve accepted the other offer and you’ll be fine.

You’re overthinking it. This is a totally acceptable thing to do (from Google’s perspective). You’ll probably upset folks at the mid tier company though.
