The man I love hates me because I’m Vietnamese
I have nailed all my onsite rounds include Googlyness. I was able to solve all the questions, and corresponding follow ups with 0 help from all the interviewers. I was interviewing for L4. Recruiter says feedback is good. But since I only have 1.5 YOE, hiring committee may downlevel me to L3 due to lack of experience. Asking general public here about their experiences.
Yeah.. most likely they would give you L3
Why though? Is it due to lack of experience? I mean I was specifically interviewing for an L4 role. And Googleness round where they probably gauge for insights into leveling was definitely aced by me. So on what grounds other than YOE can they downlevel me ?
Because you suck dude. No offense, not you specifically but you in general. People with 1 yoe are so inexperienced they dont even know what they dont know. Passing a few leetcode questions doesnt mean youre ready for L4. You might be, but 90% not. They’ll start you at L3 and if youre really at L4, youll promote fast
Bro no clue. But please update with results I’m in exact same situation
1.5 YOE ? Did recruiter explicitly let you sit for L4 loop ?
Both my coworkers that left there with 4 yoe got downleved
5 years and an MBA and i got L3 in eng role This isn't downleveling this is simply how Google levels candidates
Why did you accept L3 with 5 yoe and graduate degree though?
My money is on downlevel (or appropriate leveling). Let us know how it turns out.
Why do you feel you deserve L4 with <2 yr experience?
Because I have essentially nailed all the coding rounds, also have nailed the Googleness round, and have also had a good project experience here at Uber where I have led a project end to end. Essentially I am operating at L4 level here at Uber and am due for a promo this quarter. So ofc if I am operating at L4 level here at Uber, have this mentioned a number of times during the Googleness interview where I was drilled over my L4 experience, and the interviewer appeared convinced about my capabilities. So other than this 1.5 YOE, what other reason can Google HC use to downlevel me. I want to know that and would be happy if you share your thoughts
How do you think you led a project end to end with only 1.5 years of experience lmao
I mean it's not really a downlevel at 1.5 yoe
I understand, but I have essentially nailed all the coding rounds, also have nailed the Googleness round, and have also had a good project experience here at Uber where I have led a project end to end. Essentially I am operating at L4 level here at Uber and am due for a promo this quarter. I think you alluded to the key item: you're not an L4 at Uber and have no other L4 offers. This is not a downlevel, it's your current level. You say you nailed everything, this may be true but you can't possibly know that. As an interviewer I always try to make candidates feel good about their performance even when it was lacking. This isn't to say that you won't or can't get L4, levels are being tossed around like hot cakes nowadays. But getting L4 would be a promotion, getting L3 would not be a downlevel.
How were you HLD/LLD rounds? Did you have any SD rounds at all? You're not getting downleved with that YOE...
Google L4 doesn't have any system design or for that matter any LLD/HLD rounds. 4 rounds of leetcode and 1 Googleness round which is essentially a behavioral interview where they gauge your past experience and use data from that round to level you appropriately
That's interesting actually.. Didn't know that.
YoE 1.5 isn’t really being downleveled to L3. It’s pretty straightforward
Okay I understand that. Now I want to know on what grounds other than YOE can they use to downlevel me.
In the near future: “fresh grad interviewing for Sr. Staff but might get downleveled to Staff due to YoE. Any tips?”
I mean, you will know soon, why ask random people in the internet?
To see what people have to say and share their experience.
Then probably ask: “have you been downleveled?” in the title, because people will answer your original question out of their assess 😂😂
