Will Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Facebook increase Seattle salaries 2% with new income tax?

As most of the companies increase an employee salary 10% when moving to CA to cover the state tax, will the big tech players increase Seattle salaries to reflect the 2% proposed income tax in Seattle? As this is not for public vote and the city council is looking to approve it July 10th, I was curious... we know how taxes go, only up! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Just move to bellevue. That's if it goes through, which is highly unlikely in the first place.

Amazon AmzzSeattl OP Jun 15, 2017

Bought in Seattle in March... will turn this into a rental and move East at my 2 year mark if income tax goes through. All you smarties on the east side!

Moving to Bellevue over a few thousand dollars? Why did you choose to live in Seattle in the first place? I'd value making the commute across the lake at more than 10k.

Haha

Pinterest car tips Jun 15, 2017

da fuck. Seattle's getting worse than the bay area at this rate.

Microsoft ๐Ÿ”' Jun 16, 2017

Of course. Seattle lawmakers and council members are high everyday. Weed and coffee for the masses. The result? Seattle is also home of the homeless.

Dropbox TMR Jun 15, 2017

No, they will only give 8% adjustment for moving to CA

Uber uberpnw Jun 16, 2017

really. 2% will make a difference? Seems cheap

Amazon JeffBajaj Jun 16, 2017

2% for a population which is primarily made up off high net-worth individuals pulling in about 150k a year.

Microsoft miaomiao Jun 16, 2017

An income tax won't go through anytime soon.

Amazon AmzzSeattl OP Jun 16, 2017

We say that, but the council is voting and there was only one opposer at the hearing.

Microsoft woo Jun 16, 2017

Would the 2% tax be applied to the whole income or just the portion above $250,000?

Amazon AmzzSeattl OP Jun 16, 2017

I have read part of the proposed bill and it would be the portion above $250K as the bill currently stands. This encompasses not only your base, but 401K, stock, selling a home etc etc. 2% seems low, but that would be only the start because the city of Seattle has to build a team to manage this and the tax would then go up to pay for administration of the tax.

don't forget that income tax was declared unconstitutional in Washington state in the 1930s. this is a test case to see if that is still true.

Apple Snut Ella Jun 17, 2017

I can't believe most people read past this. This is a really important point. It's probably the point on this tax.

Facebook public Jun 16, 2017

Or course not and companies dont pay more for the bay lol

Yelp bitter Jun 16, 2017

Sure they don't.

Facebook public Jun 16, 2017

Most don't and certainly not the big ones, that would be silly.

Facebook instandidl Jun 16, 2017

Why do you think companies pay differently based on coat of living? This is not how labor markets work.

Tableau Ai4Ko1 Jun 16, 2017

some companies do pay more for Bay area but they usually pay the same as n Seattle
