Got the final round of interviews for a SWE role with Salesforce. The role would be in SF, but I’d much rather be located in NYC. I know they have a big office there and I see open SWE roles with NY as their location options, but this role seems to be exclusive to SF. When I asked the recruiter and hiring manager about it, it seems like the company is pushing them to hire in SF more exclusively. This is despite the fact that the team is currently all remote and distributed throughout the country, the company just wants the new members of the team to be in SF. I haven’t tried pushing too hard on this since I still gotta go through the final round of interviews, but I got other final rounds for roles that are in NYC, so I’m wondering if I do get an offer from Salesforce if I can negotiate my way into having the role be in NY, specially if I’m able to get competing offers in NY. Has anyone ever tried this? Any insider insight on if this would be allowed? #salesforce
It will probably be entirely dependent on the hiring manager and/or his management chain. If the manager wants to hire in SF it doesn't really matter that other teams hire in NYC, you may need to interview for those teams then.
I don’t think the hiring manager cares very much, he’s also remote and not in SF! I think the orders are coming from higher up
The Ny office is mostly for sales. It might be easier if you get the offer in SF and then transfer after a year.
Ahhh, I see, Microsoft is the same. I’m guessing space is limited/nonexistent for engineers in the NY office?
Yes, limited space and it’s not an engineering focused hub compared to SF. It was easier to relocate to NY prior to layoffs but much harder now.

If you don’t mind what what did they ask you in the interview? Have onsite next week and a bit nervous
I haven’t had the onsite just yet, will follow back after it. So far it’s just been an informational session with the hiring manager followed by a take home screening. I’d tell you what the questions were but I don’t remember them ☹️ definitely seemed like 1 easy and 1 medium leetcode questions though
Thanks!
