Will Twitter ever achieve FAANG status?
Will Twitter ever achieve the status/prestige that comes with FAANG? Sure, stock has recently grown but the company is so slow on rolling things out and revenue never really seems to be a priority. Leadership seems... Inexperienced. Ads product is still shit.
I think Twitter is the same or better than FAANG as long as the TC is comparable.
That is a big IF. Also talent density is way lower as compared to FNG.

I am an academic. I have 2nd hand information from very close friends on Twitter and Google culture. I have first hand professional collaboration with Twitter folks. Amzn is more mature as an ML org than Twitter but that is likely change with ML investment and being AI first spreading outside of faang

I absolutely love Twitter. But probably won't be working for them. Not interested in RoR, can't see how Twitter will monetize...
Twitter is one trick pony. It will be a dinosaur within 5 years if they don't evolve like FB and google did. I expe t a new age startup with some cooler idea to eat Twitter's lunch sooner than later.
How hard is it for any single engineer to replicate Twitter like app?
If you want it to work for 100-200 people it's simple. If you want it to work for billions while also maintaining filters for racism, terrorist threats, and other such messages then it might take a while. And if you want to make money off of it then you need to start aggressively pursuing the ads model.
Just buy more AWS instances? 😂 It even has auto scaling.

Twitter is FANG level product. Problem is, they've one single product. The foundations of "open" internet is basically: Reddit, Twitter, Wikipedia. None of these make much money.
Twitter is not open Internet.
Agreed that Twitter/Reddit isn't open in ideal sense. It is open in the sense that it is widely accessible, much like a market/pub. The posts are by default public, so when you're tweeting you're talking to the globe. Facebook/Snap etc are social networking. Twitter is global shouting. Hence open in a skewed definition per se.
