So I posted a senior leadership role at my LinkedIn profile in hopes of getting referrals. One of the folks in my network who responded back with interest was someone who was a two level above skip manager to me about 12 years ago. He is at the same company and its a pretty well known big tech firm. Now he is interested in working for me, will it be weird having someone work for you who used to be your boss’s boss’s boss???
Seems like you are doing well in your career.. keep it up
Nah. You've grown, it's ok. Just get used to it, and let us know how you grew so we can learn too 😊
For me growth was a healthy mix of timing (luck?) and not sticking around in the company for than 3 years and moving immediately after being promoted.
Nope
Are you sure he doesn’t want a referral to your company and not necessarily work under you?
I did mention in the blurb that I am looking to hire. So it should be clear.
Hyper weird
I'm not sure I can even name my two level above skip manager 12 years ago. Do you think he/she even remembers your position back then? (Or more to the point I know they wouldnt remember me)
No. As a manager I work with my team. Not them for me. Is he the right talent - then great.
I agree. Quite literally I don’t care about the hierarchy but the firm He and I were in was quite hierarchy oriented.
I haven’t even responded back cause I am still trying to find the right words to approach the topic. If any of you have managed this setup before, would love to hear on how you navigated this.
Nope
