Will housing in south seattle ever gentrify and schools be comparable to eastside? I feel like if Bothell is nearing 1M, then south seattle might seem like a better option with better access to both downtown/Eastside.
Eventually, yes. But it takes too long for school districts to catch up to be of any interest to you
No, over 20% of the Seattle police force has walked off the job and shootings are now a regular occurrence
Just take over a city block downtown and become your own war lord... it's legal apparently.
Seattle schools have always been awful. They are unlikely to improve under communist rule. Not sure why anyone lives in Seattle voluntarily
Which location do you recommend then? Paying >1M seems way too much for a house.
The east side. But 1M is not that much for this area. If you have a budget less then that try shoreline. Pretty good schools and you can get an okay house for under 1M. The irony is that all of Seattle sucks, the schools are shit and the politics insane AND a decent house will cost well over a million. South Seattle of all the places ... 🤢
S Seattle has been gentrifying for years, but it'll be a long time until it catches up to the Eastside. Even if the area gentrifies, many gentrifiers put their kids in private schools. 22% of kids in Seattle go to private school, the third-highest rate in the country. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/data/more-than-1-in-5-seattle-students-are-enrolled-in-private-schools-among-highest-in-nation/ You can get more house for your money down here, but then eventually people trade their mortgage savings for private tuition.
I grew up in burien and it’s been 15 years since I have lived there. At the time, the school were terrible. Tons of drugs problems, I knew of multiple murders, and single parents working too many jobs lead to kids getting into a ton of trouble. Outside of a few cool Seattle type bars/restaurants that definitely would have existed there in the mid 2000s, it feels stuck in time. The schools haven’t changed. The crime is still real bad. I loved growing up there and if the crime would have improved I probably would have moved back and out my kids in private school. Near the water, beautiful homes and a much cheaper price. I have lived in bothell for 8 years. While it’s very boring and the commute is terrible, I just sold a house I bought for 700k 18 months ago for 1.2 and am moving. Bothell is expensive for the lack of amenities and things around.
Compared to Bellevue or Kirkland, it feels empty. We don’t have a community center, the parks are lack luster, restaurant scene minimal. Schools are pretty damn good, that’s why me originally moved here
Where are you moving to? Would love to sell into this ridiculous market, but feel stuck here. (Family, friends, etc)
Bothell 🤢
What do you hare about it? (not living in Bothell, just want to learn).
