Will the trade war actually happen?

Thinking of betting on Chinese commercial paper in hopes for a pop if the trade war doesn't happen and the tariff threats stay just threats. I'm hoping to get advice from the brain trust that is Blind before making any of my own decisions

Hasn't it already started?

It is. But when people hear “trade war” it invoked an emotional reaction with the person expecting massive damage to everyone, and not small decreases in indexes around the world

It's already happening.

Shanghai composite is down 20% YTD.... We're near all time highs, up a ton from last year. I'd say we're winning. When Trump says he's going to do something, he's done it. They will definitely enact more tarriffs.

When will IQ stock go back up? Fucking penny stock.

The point is to get non Chinese companies to make their crap anywhere else outside China. It's already happening. And once they set up in Vietnam or whatever, they won't come back. China is screwed.

/r/quitYourBullshit That’s not how commercial paper works. Some faceless rando doesn’t just go and invest in it.

Already happening. Builders are crapping themselves with the material increases. It's going to exacerbate and already iffy housing market (tightening credit/rates, affordability and inventory.)
