An average Indian who moved to US chasing money on F1 visa. Finished masters with minimal fees and secured a new grad SDE job like many at Amazon during 2022. Within a blink of eye, fast forwarded to Jan 2024 and faced a lay off at Amazon. Eventually in a job search now when job market is shit, moreover expiring my second chance of H-1B lottery being unemployed now. All I left is one final chance of lottery and never ending job hunt journey. Will this loop ever end?
The first step is to acknowledge that life is not happening to you. It’s your life and you are living it. You have choices and you’re making conscious decisions. The loop will end the moment you decide it should end.
Yes the moment you say I will get H1b or a job, you will have it 👍
Hey, I hear what you're saying about taking charge of our lives, and I appreciate the encouragement. But let's be real here. Life isn't just about making choices; it's also about dealing with the hand we're dealt. I moved to the US for better opportunities, just like many others, but things don't always go as planned. Getting laid off and facing uncertainty in the job market—it's tough. Sure, I'm doing what I can to find my next opportunity, but it's not as simple as deciding to break the loop. There are external factors at play here, like visa issues and a tough job market. It's not just about my choices; it's about the circumstances I'm in. So while I appreciate the positivity, let's also acknowledge the reality of the situation.
Well I was laid off twice since 2023 and i learned that my value isn't defined by external factors rather it's defined by my decisions about how I want to live my life. It's a horrible shitty situation to get laid off and find a job in the tough market but I understood that the cards we are dealt with are the path to something better or worse. Trying to control things out of our control will only spew anxiety and stress and will make you feel worthless. You need to decide what you want to do and come to terms with it. You might need to let go of things which you planned or took for granted but who said that you won't get it back again? Don't be scared to lose it all but confident enough to win it all.
The loop closes when you realize that entire departments are now employed directly in Hydrabad and Mumbai
Likely Hyderabad and Bangalore
Sorry to hear your struggles, OP. If you see a fit at TikTok, give me a shout. Happy to refer you

Canada, tough luck but it is what it is.
Canada is a shithole.
You’ll be surprised how many companies are setting up shop there to move away from this immigration circus and pay lower. Amazon, Yelp etc etc
