No, for the first few decades the US had an arms embargo on Israel and Israel's best friends were the Soviets. It was only around the 70s that US Israel relations deepened. Plus a lot of American defense tech today is made by Israel. Additionally Israeli intelligence has saved a lot of American lives by preventing terrorist attacks.
