HR reveals PIP culture - https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-hr-performance-improvement-plans-pip-pivot-had-to-quit-2023-11 “You had visa-sponsored employees that once we Pivoted them and moved them out, they no longer were authorized to work in the United States. So they had to make immediate plans to get out of the country. And it's a long process to get sponsored by another group.” #tech #amazon #apple #google #microsoft
This is common knowledge in the tech world. Use them for interview practice and TC negotiation 😄
The HRs and L10s are the worst leeches at the Company. They keep their job by introducing these lousy practices of PIP/URI quotas.
It was introduced by Jack Welch. But it’s dumb to just copy it when you know where GE is today.
Well, when GE was able to attract the best people in its heyday, they made it work. But then they abondended the practice because as they declined they could not find enough people to replace the Piped. My manager at GE told me that. Same thing with scientists at Amazon, they are much less likely to get Piped because they are hard to replace. Others not so much. To be clear, I abhor the practice and curse Jack Welch of GE the MF who introduced it to the world.
F**k amazon!
Thank you for sharing this
I'm one of the PIP victims.
Absolutely people will ignore all these articles and reputation when they see the comp offered compared to 99% of companies in the world. I know I did. Turns out I actually like it here 🤷♂️
Same. Coasting and making 300k, enjoy my work and generally the people and have a path to L7 if I want it. Not many other places give you that. I also take 5 weeks off a year and travel the world
Any advice for new L5?
Probably not but only because I work there already.
Keep trying OP.
I have been working for Amazon for a few years now and believe me I wouldn’t recommend anyone to work at Amazon ever. This place is a sh*thole. The leaders are incompetent here.
They gaslight you into going doing a bad job while taking your work, cutting you out of meetings and then giving you a bad performance review. Many L7s and L8s are basically tenured and truly abuse their power.

Worst company in the world. Every single of my friends who are much smarter than me got pipped there by some stupid manager. Will never ever apply there
Is Meta so much different, with its all about impact mentality? Don't you all have to quantitatively justify why you should be employed twice a year with hard numbers without a doubt? I am just curious, did not work for Meta. Worked for Amazon for a short while. They had yearly talent reviews where managers rank people. My impression was that, if you can quantitativly justify your contributions, just like in Meta, you are very likely fine at Amazon.
Meta is the same
