I cannot use macOS because it gives me severe eyestrain and headaches, perhaps because of a flickering called temporal dithering. Apple refuses to fix this accessibility issue. See LEDStrain.org for more details. There's a whole community of people impacted. Some of us have diagnosed visual issues like esophoria or conference insufficiency, however the treatments have not been very effective đ. Use an External Monitor
Hey op, I don't have an answer to your question but have the same problem with Macs. In case you have to use one for your job, try changing the color profile if you haven't already. I found that Adobe RGB and 709 were easier on my eyes, but still worse than using Linux or Windows. Hope this helps
Glad to hear someone else is impacted. I thought I was going crazy until I found LEDstrain.org
Yeah same, it took me months to figure out why my eyes felt awful all the time
I would lean no. Everything here is setup for Mac. Everything from the initial laptop setup guide and scripts and then to all the engtools by different groups. I got sent a windows laptop when I started and essentially had to wait until they sent me a Mac and I shipped the windows one back.
Thanks for your comments. I will unfortunately have to decline the offer because of the severe eyestrain. Edit: it appears windows is an option
Hi! I'm an engineer at Uber. You can request a Windows laptop from IT when you join. Ask for "the high RAM Thinkpad ;)" It will come with Windows. You can do most development from there via devpod and the combination of WSL and VMs. Alternatively join us in #gnulinux-engineers and go Ubuntu :) Happy to help you get going if you need anything, you can figure out my email from my username.
Wow thanks for this! It's a similar process to Amazon. Thanks so much, bless you.
hi @lland / @uber, I'm building something pretty close to devpod. Can you please help me connect with the person who builds and manages devpod, or someone who uses devpod full-time? I wanted to have a call and get some feedback and hear about the challenges using them.
Unsure about windows but you can get a linux machine

China CYBERATTACK on UK ? WTF
Seems like a hardware problem rather than an OS one? Have you tried an external monitor that doesnât use PWM?
Wow I read more about it. Looks like a common thing thatâs only Mac OS specific. External displays donât help. Damn that sucks OP
Yeah it can appear elsewhere but macOS is much worse. It does limit my employment unfortunately. I wish Apple would take this seriously.
