Hey Atlassian friends, I am joining as a dev in a few weeks. The onboarding team told me I can only get a Mac. Now, having used one at a previous job, not a big fan tbh. Any chance I can use a PC for work? I am totally down buying one on my own if they support BYOD.
Learn to use a Mac. Windows is slowly dying
If you use Windows while everyone else is on mac you will prob have random issues that no one will help solve. Mac is better imo
You should learn MacOs, it’s UNIX based so similar to Linux. Excluding .NET development, rest of industry is on Linux and using MacOS for development works well with Linux hosts
We support BYOD but only company-issued laptops can access the highest trust systems. So you could enroll a personal device and use it for a lot of day-to-day tasks like email and slack and confluence, but not a lot of the things you'll need as a software dev. I recommend getting a mac, especially if you're being told everyone on the team uses one. I had never used a mac before my last job, but using the same machine as all my teammates was definitely the right call. Someone else joined that company and got a pc, and they were continually blocked by software issues. 🙃
Thank you!
What were the specs on the mac you got op?
