18k + 8k; last year was 154k per layoffs fyi site
Again 18k was total layoffs at Amazon, not layoffs that happened only this week
In fact none happend this week. Will start Jan 18.
Layoffs fyi says 8k instead of 18k, so you may be right. I guess if rumors of 10k at GOOG on Monday come true, then it would be 3 tech co.
You are right about the layoffs.fyi numbers, but the Salesforce and Amazon layoffs are slated for 2023. It is anyone's guess how many tech layoffs will occur this year, but since the bulk of downsizing occurs 12-18 months after the start of recession (Q2 2022), I suspect there will be more than 154,000 job cuts this year.
If the fed does a 0% rate hike this cycle it might go a long way at slowing down the layoffs. Companies might be willing to delay decisions 1-2 quarters if the fed does a u-turn
To correct here Amazon's 18 K layoffs are those that happened in November 2022 plus those that shall happen in January 2023 : also all these are corporate workforce i.e. not fulfillment centre folks though corporate workerforce means both Tech and Non Tech
More to come in next 2 weeks
